- find out about internships and jobs
- have parties and meet people
- get involved in local community service projects
- learn about different planning tracks, explore different directions to go in
- be a part of APA officially; get in on APA events
- networking
- come up with local policy recommendations and effect change
Club events:
- goal is to sponsor an event every other week
- first official club meeting will be Thursday, January 27, 8pm (place TBA)
- second meeting will involve a speaker, movie, or other special event
- proposed having 2 or 3 club members take responsibility for organizing each meeting
- Ideas for club events:
- informal panel of planning professionals
- panel / info-night for grad programs in planning
- host speakers (ideas: Village Homes guru (via Ted), Bob Waste of Sac State (via Ted), Terry Roberts (via Shauna), citizen advocate involved in Sacramento park project (via Ted)
- host debates on current planning issues
- host movie nights
- write about issues for discussion
- attend area meetings, conferences, and networking events
Ideas for the website:
- member profiles
- upcoming club events
- upcoming planning events (city of Davis, Sacramento, etc.)
- links to related website: Planet Izen, cool maps, APA
- discussion of current local planning issues
- list of recommended reading (books, articles, etc.)
To do:
- become SPAC recognized (Audrey and Shauna)
- find faculty advisors that are APA members (Ted, Shauna, Kristin)
- Meet with Sacramento APA chapter representative (Julia, Shauna)
- Line up first speaker / movie (??)
- Research possibility of sponsorships to help pay for APA registration fees (Shauna has 1 contact)
- Develop website (Justin)
- Write article for New Planner publication (Shauna)
- Write to faculty announcing the formation of the club (Justin)
- Develop list of email addresses (depts., majors, advisors) to circulate announcement of first meeting (Justin?, Ted, others)
- Maintain club email list (Julia)
